Russian Prepositional Case — Location & Topics

The prepositional case (предло́жный паде́ж) is the only case that is always used after a preposition — hence the name. The four main prepositions that take it are в ("in"), на ("on, at"), о/об ("about"), and при ("at, attached to").

Use it for static location (Я в Москве́ — "I'm in Moscow"; Кни́га на столе́ — "The book is on the table") and for topic of discussion (Мы говори́м о пого́де — "We're talking about the weather"). Typical endings are -е for most singular nouns, -и for feminine nouns ending in -ь and for nouns ending in -ие / -ия, and -ах / -ях in the plural.
