Russian Verb Conjugation

Russian verbs follow two main conjugation patterns. First conjugation verbs typically end in -ать or -ять (рабо́тать "to work" → я рабо́таю, ты рабо́таешь, он/она́ рабо́тает, мы рабо́таем, вы рабо́таете, они́ рабо́тают). Second conjugation verbs typically end in -ить (говори́ть "to speak" → я говорю́, ты говори́шь, он/она́ говори́т, мы говори́м, вы говори́те, они́ говоря́т).

Past tense is formed from the infinitive stem plus -л (masculine), -ла (feminine), -ло (neuter), -ли (plural). Future tense for imperfective verbs uses быть + infinitive (я бу́ду чита́ть); future for perfective verbs uses the same endings as the present tense form (я прочита́ю). Verb pairs (perfective/imperfective aspect) are taught alongside conjugation because the two systems work together.
